The 'Big Apple' slogan originated in the 1920's at the horse races.
Big money race tracks were said to have a 'big apple'. Jazz musicians
in the late 1920's adopted the term to refer to the New York City
as a whole and in the 1970's, the slogan was re-born in a massive
tourism campaign to promote visitors to a safe New York City. |

Heinz
ketchup was introduced in 1876 as a "Blessed relief
for Mother and other women in the household!"
Heinz slogan '57 Varieties' originated in 1896. H.J. Heinz erected
the first electric sign in 1900 in New York City, a 40 foot pickle. |
Dr
Pepper is the oldest major soft drink manufacturer in the U.S.,
invented in Waco, Texas in 1885 at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store.
Curiously, there is no period after the Dr in Dr Pepper and the
origin of the name is unknown, although various stories have been
proposed throughout the product history. |

The
Harry & Clement Studebaker Blacksmith Shop opened in 1852 in
South Bend, Indiana. During the late 1800's, the shop specialized
in wagon orders for the U.S. Army. In 1902 the company experimented
with the electric car and turned to gasoline powered cars in 1904.
Studebaker was the only manufacturer to successfully switch from
horse drawn to gasoline powered vehicles. |
In 1897, Pearle Wait, a carpenter in Leroy, NY experimented with
a gelatine fruit flavored dessert which his wife named Jell-O. The
idea is sold for $450 to entrepreneur Frank Woodward. The original
four flavors were orange, lemon, strawberry and raspberry. Lime
was introduced in 1930. The Jell-O ad girl is introduced in 1904
and Jack Benny is signed to promote the brand on radio in 1934.
In 1988 Bill Cosby is named spokesman. |

Dairy
Queen began with the sale of a ten cent soft frozen dairy ice cream
treat in 1938. In 1940, the first Dairy Queen opens in Joliet, Illinois.
The first Banana Split appears in 1951. The company's brand slogan
"We Treat You Right" debuts
in 1980. |
On June 16, 1903, Henry Ford and eleven business associates incorporated
Ford Motor Company with $28,000 in cash. The model T was born in
1908 and would sell 15 million models by 1925. In 1913 Ford revolutionized
manufacturing by introducing the moving assembly line at Hyde Park,
Michigan. 100 years later, Ford Motor Co. is a global giant whose
brands include Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston
Martin and Volvo. |
